Our Staff
We know that a great program and a beautiful location is not enough: a camp is only as good as its staff. We seek warm, enthusiastic, caring, responsible staff who want to work with children. Our highest priority is a safe, well-supervised program. Many of our staff come from our own Counselor-in-Training program and have been with us for years. To maintain a diverse outlook we also continually recruit and train some new counselors mostly from California colleges and universities. However, to insure a diverse outlook, each summer we hire a small number of qualified international counselors.
All Camp Unalayee staff members must be at least 18 years old and must have Red Cross certification in Wilderness First Aid. All staff have experience working with children as well as extensive outdoor and backpacking experience. Each staff member also attends our 10 day intensive training program. American Red Cross-certified lifeguards are on duty for all lake activities (boating and swimming). Licensed medical personnel are always on duty. Our camper to staff ratio averages one staff member for every four campers.
It's the Staff's turn to entertain on Special Day.
