Counselor-In-Training Program (CIT)
Our CIT program is designed for the young person who is motivated to learn new skills and to work with younger children. CIT's must be 16 or 17 years old. CIT's must be interested in being positive role models for children. They must be interested in learning counseling and outdoor skills.
The CIT Program is divided into two sections: CIT I and CIT II.
The 1st session is mandatory for a first year CIT. This program focuses on learning and demonstrating outdoor living skills, such as map and compass reading, cooking, First Aid, emergency and safety procedures, tarp usage, and more. Through discussion groups and hands on assignments, the CITs learn about group dynamics, develop listening and observation skills, practice communication techniques, and begin to understand the obligations of leadership positions.
The CIT II program is for graduates of CIT I and is offered every session. These CITs, under the supervision of experienced staff, assume a more active, responsible role working with younger campers. Using feedback from supervisors and focussed discussion groups, the CITs build upon their experiences to work with children in an outdoor setting.
Camp Unalayee's CIT Program is rich in personal experiences and personal development. It is designed for the young person who is willing to challenge his/herself and be a responsible community member.
