Trail Tribes

Camp Unalayee is uniquely situated inside the Trinity Alps Wilderness, one of the largest parcels of backcountry land in California. The Marble Mountain and Russian Wilderness are within walking distance of camp. The camp is a perfect trailhead to start a backpacking adventure. There are horizons of peaks, hundreds of alpine lakes, ribbons of rivers, streams and creeks, limestone caves, landscapes of wildflowers and tangles of trails just around the bend to discover.
Each session camp offers at least one Trail Tribe. These extended backpacking trips are designed for the camper who wants to be on the trail for eleven days. The adventure starts at the base camp, planning the itinerary, gearing up and packing food. The hikes end back at base camp where the group will have time to participate in camp activities and campfires. Campers can sign-up for either the Hiking Tribe or the Wild Tribe.

Hiking Tribe
The Hiking Tribe is for campers who want to stretch their legs and explore lots of back country. this is a ten day packing trip where the focus is on hiking and exploring the beautiful wilderness that surround our base camp. These hikes usually average eight trail miles a day. Campers should be in good physical condition. The group will spend a few days at base camp planning the hike, packing the food and participating in activities and campfires.
Wild Tribe
The Wild Tribe campers want to immerse themselves into the wilderness experience. Much of the ten day trip will be spent off trail exploring country tht most hikers miss. Campers will spend time learning about local natural history and wilderness skills. Before and after the hike there will be time to enjoy activities and campfires at base camp.
